The two-story, Spanish style house is located in the heart of historic Whitley Heights in Los Angeles. The expansive living room steps up to a smaller sitting area with a wraparound deck that showcases views of Hollywood, downtown, and the famed Hollywood sign. A palette of deep purples, grays, browns and blues was chosen for the entry, living room dining room, kitchen and breakfast nook. Floors are ebonized wood, and the walls are a warm beige. The living room is furnished with a curved sectional sofa, vintage French Deco chairs, an Ico Parisi wall unit, custom hide rug from Mansour Modern, and a mid-century glass and chrome coffee table.
SPI and the clients wanted to remain true to the architecture of the original house. The only remodeling of space occurred in the kitchen which needed to be updated in order to accommodate the lifestyle of a modern family. In the dining room, SPI designed the black lacquer dining table, and the black lacquer and caned chairs were purchased from the Elizabeth Taylor estate in Palm Springs. Above the dining table hangs an oversized 5' x 5' 1960s Italian crystal mazzega chandelier. Extra dishes and serving trays are housed in the rosewood and rattan Dunbar sideboard with a collection of vintage mirrors above. The grey and white herringbone pattern rug is from Mansour Modern, and the wallpaper is from Walnut Wallcoverings. Ed Ruscha's Every Building On The Sunset Strip hangs on the far wall.
Of the many types of wallpaper used throughout the house, one of the client's favorites is the Geoff McFetridge purple mural wallpaper in the nursery. The room has a separate bath, and french doors that open onto a private patio. The hallway leading to the nursery is lined with colorful bookshelves, a parchment desk, and a purple runner from Mansour Modern.
